Avril Haubrich

Avril Haubrich is a contemporary landscape painter based in Berkshire, UK. Born in North Wales near the slopes of Snowdonia, her lifelong connection to the environment was formed by an early immersion in nature. This foundation shapes a practice centred on atmosphere, luminosity, and the emotional resonance of the natural world.

Prior to her full-time commitment to art, Avril built an international executive career, living in four countries and travelling across all seven continents. Witnessing firsthand the rapid environmental degradation across diverse global landscapes profoundly shifted her perspective, reinforcing her conviction that nature must be actively protected for future generations.

Combining memory and imagination, she utilises traditional Old Master techniques; her new series is heavily informed by the 19th-century Hudson River School artists.

​Avril adapts their luminous handling of light alongside their historic reverence for wilderness and their concerns about humanity’s encroachment on the landscape to address contemporary ecological crises. Her commitment to environmental stewardship is reflected in her studio practice, working entirely with solvent-free oil mediums on linen canvas, prioritising sustainable studio habits.

 

Avril’s work has gained recognition, including being second-stage shortlisted for the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize 2025 and shortlisted and featured in the exhibition catalogue for ArtEvol 2026: A View from Everywhere, curated by Nelson Qin and organised by London Art Collective 2-11th October 2026, at the Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s HQ, King’s Road, London SW3 4RY.

She has exhibited in the UK, including London. Through her practice, she invites viewers to move beyond passive observation into active environmental advocacy, evoking a vital sense of care and responsibility for a planet facing unprecedented challenges.
